Five Hosts? And One of Them Was Tom Bergeron? What?

Well, at least Mad Men & 30 Rock won the big catagories last night, which is awesome because they are the two best in their catagories. I know people love The Office, as do I, but 30 Rock is the best written comedy on television, and when you add that to Alec Baldwin you get a big old pot of genious. As for drama - the only show I would have been comfortable seeing beat Mad Men wasn't nominated, so I'm happy with that outcome. Although if Emmy could get around to rewarding the fucking brilliance that is Battlestar Galactica, I wouldn't want to throw bombs at their offices on Wilshire.

I actually missed much (most) of the show, as the Yankees were playing their last game at the old stadium and it was quite the spectacular (Sorry - Yogi Beara and Tino Martinez vs. Best Directing for a Comedy is no contest.)

I've got the list of winners after the jump, but from the pieces I saw live I have the following questions that I'm sure Monkey See, Monkey Doo Doo and Gleek can answer. (They don't watch the Yankees. Unless Derek Jeter is on Daily Show or something.)

1. They didn't have time to let people speak, but they had time for a five minute bit about reality TV Hosts?

2. Don Rickles: discuss

3. How did Bryan Cranston happen? Was it vote splitting? A Nader like situation? Do you think enough Emmy voters even saw Breaking Bad?

4. The Josh Groban singing TV theme songs - please tell me it was done ironically. Cause that sounds like comedy gold.

5. Tina Fey for Writing & Best Show - YES. Tina Fey for acting? Hmm.

6. MVP of the Night (also called "The Hosts Suck Award"): Ricky Gervais or Don Rickles?

7. How HOT was Tina Fey last night? My goodness - someone's stylist needs their own Emmy.

Monkey See, Monkey Doodoo said...

I was extremely happy with the outcome of the Emmys.

The only problem I had was with Supporting Actor and Actress in a Comedy. Samantha Who? Won an Emmy ... let that sink in. That category had so many other more deserving nominees. And Jeremy Piven? Entourage has not been good in years and although he had ONE nice emotional moment in ONE episode last season, he is doing the same thing he has always done.

The other thing that upset me was that Jay Roach won Best Director over Tom Hooper for John Adams. WHAT THE FUCK?! A 90 minute modern movie by the guy that directed Austin Powers beat out the man who steered the ship of an epic mini series that has changed the way people shoot period pieces. I think everyone was in shock and you could hear it in Tom Hanks voice when he thanked Hooper during his speech when John Adams won Best Mini Series.

I was ECSTATIC that Zeljko Ivanek won for Damages. Because A.) He ain't gonna be in Season 2 and B.) HE WAS AMAZING!!!!!!

Now on to Mon Chi Chi's questions:

1.) The tragedy that was the 5 hosts will haunt the Emmys for years. Not only was it one of the lowest rated telecasts in history it was a milestone show (60 years) and they really fucked it up. Look for a massive overhaul next year.

2.) Love him when he is on. Love him when he bombs. Love him when he is racist. Love him when he is gracious.

3.) The BUZZ all week was that he was gonna win. The industry loves that show and with many people sick of Network TV it showed that cable (not just HBO) was gonna benefit from that hatred of all things network.

4.) I had to fast forward. I just had to.

5.) From her Writing speech it sounds like she should've shared that statuette. But let's face it, she IS the all-around funniest women on TV. I thought it was very justified especially if you look at the fact that she was also nominated (performance wise) for her hosting gig on SNL. Plus, they are never gonna give it to Mary Louise Parker and if they had given it to Americus Ferrercus again I would have blown my brains out.

6.) Ricky Gervais. He should host everything. "I sat through Evan Almighty now give me my Emmy." CLASSIC!

7.) So hot that I would do her.
